Practice Makes Perfect

This week is kind of a crazy one at work…I have FOUR dinners/work events. Tonight was the first one. We’re interviewing for a new executive, so they wanted to bring the candidate out for dinner and drinks to meet the team. I am happy to say that I didn’t binge, or even eat until I was uncomfortably full. I had 2 glasses of wine and tried all of the tapas-style dishes that we ordered. It was certainly more food that I needed for the day, but a huge improvement over the past.

OF COURSE I still feel a bit of anxiety about the fact that I didn’t lose any weight today, but it is what it is. And the good news is that I have 3 more chances to get it right this week! Tomorrow I’m going to try the following:

- just get one glass of wine, and then switch to water

- remind myself that if I’m not hungry (which I probably won’t be, because these dinners are late and I’ve already eaten a lot) that I can eat whatever I want but a taste is really all that’s necessary. More is not better.

- Again, I can eat whatever I want, but really think about whether I want to eat it. Don’t just eat it because it’s there.

I’m feeling happy and optimistic after tonight’s dinner though. Not fat and depressed. YAY!

And actually, tomorrow is a breakfast meeting at work too. The last time we had one I didn’t eat anything at breakfast, and then binged on like 4 leftover muffins and a yogurt cup in the afternoon. Tomorrow I will decide what I want to eat, and eat it in the morning while it is still fresh and delicious. And I’ll bring a Larabar too, in case it’s all just muffins and danishes and nothing I feel like eating.

Alright! I have plans!

I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do for workouts. I tried a new class at the gym this morning, and it was meh. At my old gym, before I moved to california, I went to this high-intensity interval class that was amaaazing. I’ve never sweated so much in my life. It was tabata-style, and just when I thought I couldn’t do whatever exercise we were doing for another second, the interval would be over. I suppose I could always just make up my own workouts and try them at home, but I really like having an instructor and other people doing it with me. But whatever, I’m trying out practically everything in the area (and there is a LOT in the area), so I’m sure I’ll find something that’s a good fit.

I’ll report back on dinner #2 tomorrow! :)
